May Gutteridge was a devout Christian woman who immigrated to Canada from Britain in 1955. She joined the James' Anglican Church parish in Vancouver in 1958. In the summer of 1959 she received a divine call to go and help the poor in the Downtown Eastside. What followed truly astounded everyone including her supporters, clients and adversaries. Literally, on a wing and a prayer, she blazed an early trail through deep-seated historical prejudice for the poor and women in British Columbia. She courageously knocked on the doors of entrenched apathy until governments began to change and become one of her greatest allies – at all levels, municipal, provincial and federal governments. Her lifelong crusade was officially recognized in 1981 with an Order of Canada award.
From Lost to Found chronicles her lively and oftentimes controversial legacy with sensitivity and numerous biographical illustrations.

James Hamilton, the father of two teenaged girls, Olivia and Nicole, struggles with his role as a non-custodial parent and with his common law spouse who is alienated from his children. The cost of raising children, the magic of the credit card era and the burden of student loan debt co-mingle to produce powerful insights about contemporary family issues.
